Hyundai recall alert, Sonata owners face fire risk

Hyundai's yanking over eighty-five thousand Sonata sedans off the road because a busted valve might literally set your car on fire. The problem hits models from the early 2020s with the turbo sixteen-hundred-cc engine, and it happens when pressurized air sneaks into the fuel tank through a defective purge control check valve. That extra pressure can make the tank balloon out until it touches hot exhaust parts, which melts everything and starts leaking gas everywhere.

Owners should watch for weird popping noises from the back seat area, gas smells, dashboard lights freaking out, or the engine refusing to turn over. The company knows about seven confirmed tank leaks between the United States and Canada, but nobody's crashed or gotten hurt yet.

Dealerships will swap out broken parts and flash the software when people bring their rides in after getting letters. Anyone who has already dropped cash fixing this mess gets their money back, and you can punch your VIN into the NHTSA website to see if your Sonata made the list.
