People in Ibanda want to save their special river, Mpanga. This river provides everyone with clean water, but it needs help because many trees near it have been cut down.
A group called the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation gave money to fix the river. They work with people who take care of water in Uganda. Mr. Elly Kilya, who looks after nature in Ibanda, says the Mpanga River must stay healthy because everyone needs its water.
The helpers want to plant many trees near the river. They plan to plant twenty thousand new trees in places like Rushango, Nyamarebe, Rukiri, and Nyabuhikye. These trees will strengthen the land and keep the water clean.
Some nice people taught farmers how to plant trees correctly. They also gave the farmers special tools to dig holes. The farmers have already dug a hundred holes. They will start planting trees in these holes when the rainy season comes between March and May.
Mr. Elias Tumubwine leads the area's government. He wants everyone to help plant trees and take care of the river. He says making the river healthy will help prevent bad weather and improve the lives of all the people who live there.
The people who live near the river feel happy about this plan. When they plant more trees, the river will have more water. The land will stay strong, and everyone will have clean water for many years.
