The earlier FAME-I program assisted 255,305 electric vehicles between 2015 and 2019. Authorities sanctioned approximately 520 charging facilities with 43 crore rupees during this initial phase. The subsequent FAME-II scheme operated from 2019 through 2024 with expanded objectives. Both programs extended their reach throughout India, covering tier 2 and tier 3 urban areas. These initiatives aimed to boost electric vehicle adoption while strengthening domestic manufacturing capabilities and supporting the nation's commitment to reduced emissions under international climate agreements.
