India's seafood export empire targets $15 billion

The seafood export industry positions India as a dominant force across 132 global markets. Export volumes reached 16,98,170 tonnes valued at Rs 62,408.45 crore during 2024-25, representing growth from the previous year's Rs 60,523.89 crore. The sector provides employment for over 30 million people engaged in fishing and aquaculture operations. Officials target doubling current export values to $15 billion within the next six years.

The Seafood Exporters Association of India prepares to host the 24th India International Seafood Show from September 25 through 28 at Bharat Mandapam. This trade exhibition forms part of World Food India 2025, the government's premier food innovation platform. More than 260 exhibitors will participate alongside representatives from over 15 nations. The association emphasizes sustainable harvesting methods and ethical sourcing practices throughout the industry. Technical sessions and roundtable discussions will address workforce development, environmental responsibility, and technological advancement challenges facing the sector.
