Interim Government Releases Booklet Detailing Sector-Wise Reforms and Initiatives

Bangladesh's interim government published a reform booklet detailing changes across multiple sectors since taking power last year. The document covers power systems, railways, elections, courts, education and public administration. Officials called it a living document that will grow as more reforms happen. The booklet shows progress made across different areas of government. Leaders plan to update the guide as new changes take place.

Election reforms feature a draft for redrawing parliamentary districts before the next vote. The Council of Advisers approved this boundary plan. Officials want to change the Representation of the People Order with help from the Election Commission. The commission also reviews rules for local and foreign election watchers. These changes aim to make voting more fair and transparent.

Court system reforms created a Supreme Judicial Appointment Council led by the Chief Justice. This group ensures judges get picked based on merit rather than politics. A proposed Supreme Court office would give judges more control over lower courts. The government changed the International Crimes Tribunal Act twice to meet global standards. The first changes in November 2024 protected human rights during trials.

Commercial courts will handle business disputes worth at least 50 million taka. These special courts should settle cases faster and help the economy grow. The European Union provides support for this court system. Public service changes would affect 1.4 million government workers. New rules would speed up punishment for bad behavior but might reduce worker protections.
