iPhones storm the US as India smartphone exports skyrocket 39 percent

India achieved remarkable smartphone export growth during August, with shipments reaching $1.53 billion compared to $1.09 billion the previous year. The India Cellular and Electronics Association reported a 39 percent increase that contradicted recent slowdown claims. United States purchases surged dramatically, rising 148 percent from $388 million to $965 million during the same month. The association emphasized that American market demand drove exceptional performance throughout the fiscal period.

Export revenues for April through August 2025 totaled a record $11.7 billion, representing 55 percent growth over last year's $7.6 billion. First-quarter shipments to America alone generated $8.43 billion, marking 193 percent expansion from the previous year's $2.88 billion. ICEA Chairman Pankaj Mohindroo criticized oversimplified trade analysis that ignored sector-specific patterns. August traditionally shows weaker performance as manufacturers prepare for September product launches and redirect resources toward domestic festival demand. The Production-Linked Incentive program transformed smartphones from India's 167th-ranked export category to the nation's largest export sector.
