Jamaat-e-Islami leader Dr Shafiqur Rahman vows to build corruption-free Bangladesh at rally in Dhaka

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami leader Dr Shafiqur Rahman addressed thousands at Suhrawardy Udyan during a political demonstration. The 67-year-old party chief promoted anti-corruption initiatives and national cooperation while advocating for transparent parliamentary elections. Rahman experienced two physical collapses during his address but resumed speaking from a seated position. Medical personnel provided immediate assistance before transporting him to Dhanmondi Ibn Sina Hospital for evaluation. Physicians confirmed no serious health complications following the incident.

The gathering marked the organization's largest public assembly since former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's removal following August mass protests. Rahman pledged that future party representatives would reject government housing allocations and duty-free vehicles. The demonstration supported seven electoral reform proposals emphasizing fair voting procedures. Multiple religious and political figures participated alongside families of protest casualties. Rally organizers demanded proportional representation systems and overseas voting rights for expatriate citizens.
