Jashore cops grilled as Shibir duo lose legs

Bangladesh's International Crimes Tribunal authorized questioning of three officers on Monday in a 2016 case involving two Islami Chhatra Shibir members shot after arrest in Jashore's Chougachha area. The three-judge panel granted prosecutors 15 days to separately interrogate former sub-inspector Aqiqul Islam and constables Sazzadur Rahman and Zahrul Haque. Authorities arrested the students while riding a motorcycle and transferred them to the Detective Branch for verification before reaching an arrangement regarding their custody.

Officers blindfolded the detainees the night before their scheduled court appearance and shot them in the knees at another location. Police then brought them to court, claiming the injuries occurred during an armed confrontation. Both victims required leg amputations during subsequent medical treatment and the court ordered their imprisonment following the hearing.
