Jet Mwebaze claims military rigged Mawogola North vote

A parliamentary candidate claims the army staged a takeover to steal an election. Jet Mwebaze alleges Uganda's military violently rigged the Mawogola North poll, acting on behalf of the president's relatives. He says soldiers intimidated voters, chased away his agents, and openly stuffed ballot boxes.

Mwebaze names President Museveni's stepbrothers, Godfrey Aine Kaguta, Shedrick Nzeire, and Michael Nuwagira, as orchestrators. He also accuses Electoral Commission officials of complicity, stating ballot papers were sold on the black market in Sembabule District. The candidate spent election day securing the release of arrested supporters.

He describes the events as the collapse of electoral credibility despite strong grassroots support for his campaign. Mwebaze states consultations are ongoing to determine a response, framing the choice as surrendering to fraud or mounting a challenge. He vows to contest the outcome, calling it a civic duty.
