Former India spinner Sunil Joshi will assume the spin bowling coach position at the BCCI's Centre of Excellence after leaving Punjab Kings. Joshi played 15 Tests and 69 ODIs for India between 1996 and 2002 before serving as a spin bowling coach with the IPL franchise before the 2023 season. Sources confirmed on Monday that his extensive coaching experience in domestic, international, and IPL cricket distinguished him from other candidates for the role.
Joshi recently worked as a bowling coach for India A against Australia A in Lucknow and Kanpur. He replaces Sairaj Bahutule, who departed to join the Rajasthan Royals before IPL 2025. The Bengaluru-based coach will mentor national spinners such as Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Washington Sundar, Axar Patel, Varun Chakaravarthy, and Ravi Bishnoi.
His responsibilities extend to developing talent across India A, U-19, and domestic levels. Joshi will coordinate with national selectors on talent identification programs to strengthen the spin bowling pipeline. He previously coached Uttar Pradesh and served as a spin consultant for Bangladesh.
