Kenya's Agriculture leader, Mutahi Kagwe, visited the United Arab Emirates Ambassador Salim Ibrahim Alnaqbi on Monday. They met at the UAE Embassy right here in Nairobi. Their talk focused on improving farm trade between both countries. The meeting aimed to build stronger connections based on deals they had already made.
Kenya joined hands with the UAE through a big trade deal called CEPA back in January 2025. This agreement knocked down barriers that made selling stuff hard. Kenyan farmers can sell more meat, fruits, veggies, and flowers overseas because of it. The UAE had never signed anything like this with any other country in mainland Africa before.
Business between these countries has been great lately. Money moving both ways reached 445 billion Kenyan shillings during 2023, which doubled compared to ten years ago. The UAE is the sixth biggest customer of Kenyan products and the second biggest supplier of Kenyan products.
Kenyan farmers did really well-selling meat products worth 9.9 billion shillings to the UAE last year. That makes up more than half of all the meat Kenya sells to other countries. The partnership helps Kenya become an important doorway for trade into East and Southern Africa. At the same time, it makes the UAE more valuable as a connecting point between different regions.
The trade deal from 2023 with Dubai created many chances for new business. Kenya sells more different kinds of products because of it. The country also buys more electronics, machines, and cars from overseas. Another agreement between business groups from both places helps companies work together through special trips and meetings.
Both sides promised to make sure these paper agreements turn into real benefits for regular people. They want to create more jobs and money for everyone. The farm sector especially stands to gain as Kenya shows the world what its farmers can produce. Kagwe left the meeting feeling positive about the future between these friendly nations.
