Kamene wants Speaker to heed court ruling and fund counties

Joyce Kamene Kasimbi from Machakos wants Speaker Moses Wetangula to accept what the court decided about Azimio having more members in Parliament. She believes everyone should follow the Kenyan Constitution when courts make decisions. She mentioned how the speaker tried to change a High Court ruling but failed. Kasimbi urged Wetangula to do what the law requires by recognizing Azimio as the larger group in Parliament.

The Woman Representative also asked Treasury officials to send money to counties right away. She explained that counties face many problems because they lack funds to provide services. The Governors have spoken up about these delays causing troubles across Kenya. Kasimbi plans to lead other lawmakers next week to push the government to release these funds. She also wants county governors to work harder on service delivery after they receive their money.

Kasimbi made it clear that counties cannot function without resources. She expressed happiness about returning to Parliament soon, where she can question the Treasury about why the money takes so long to reach counties. The lawmaker additionally requested that the Kenya Kwanza Government pay school funds on schedule. This would help schools run smoothly without interruptions or financial stress.

She spoke during a mentorship event at Mbukuni Secondary School, where she gave sanitary pads to girls from sixteen schools around Kalama in the Machakos sub-county. The mentorship program focused on talking with young people about drug abuse problems. These issues cause many students to leave school early or consider suicide, according to the representative.
