Kano's Yusuf makes it rain on youths and grannies

Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf announced the launch of pension payment initiatives during a recent ceremony. The administration has distributed N27 billion from the N47 billion debt it inherited upon taking office. Officials plan to eliminate all outstanding pension obligations before 2027 through systematic payment schedules. The current disbursement represents the fifth installment targeting pensioners and beneficiaries of deceased civil servants. This effort addresses years of delayed payments that caused significant hardship for senior citizens and their families.

The state government allocated N5 billion for 1,026 beneficiaries under this latest payment cycle covering 2017 obligations. Youth development programs will provide N150,000 startup capital to over 4,000 young people across all 44 local government areas. Women entrepreneurs will receive N50,000 monthly through sustained empowerment schemes reaching 5,200 participants statewide. Previous payment rounds distributed N22 billion to 12,433 recipients since the administration began in May 2023. These initiatives have reduced inherited pension arrears by more than half within the first term.
