Kasewa leaders want a well, get a mangrove lesson

Communities in Upper Nuimi received training on mangrove restoration on Monday as part of an initiative to reforest 150 hectares of degraded wetlands. The Agency for the Development of Women and Children organized the session in Kasewa with support from the Food and Agriculture Organization under the Climate Resilient Fishery Initiative. Participants from Kasewa, Sittanunku, and Nuimi Lamin learned conservation techniques and received restoration equipment for the planting campaign.

Mamsamba Joof of ADWAC emphasized that mangroves prevent saltwater intrusion into farmland and provide fish habitats. Facilitators explained that mangroves support income generation, nutrition, and youth employment while warning against destructive cutting practices. Community leaders pledged to protect the ecosystem and requested additional support for water infrastructure and food processing equipment to strengthen local livelihoods.
