Kejriwal's bungalow drama drags as Centre promises 'appropriate' house

The federal government promised Delhi High Court that AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal would receive suitable government accommodation within ten days. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta presented this commitment before Justice Sachin Datta during Thursday's proceedings. Legal representatives debated which category of residence should be allocated to the former Delhi Chief Minister. The court will issue formal orders after recording the government's statement.

AAP attorneys requested either Type 7 or Type 8 housing for their party chief. Federal lawyers opposed these demands and argued that ordinary citizens do not seek such premium accommodations. The Solicitor General confirmed that appropriate housing would be provided according to established regulations. Previous hearings saw judicial criticism over administrative delays in making allocation decisions.

The party bases its petition on guidelines stating that recognized national party presidents deserve Delhi residences when they lack personal property. A Type 7 bungalow at Lodhi Estate had been suggested but was already assigned to Finance Minister Pankaj Chaudhary.
