A delegation of 30 Kenyan tourism professionals began a seven-day journey through Uganda this week to strengthen cross-border travel partnerships and accelerate the East African tourism sector's recovery following pandemic disruptions. The group departed on Tuesday after Consul-General Paul Mukumbya launched the Uganda-Kenya Coast FAM Trip 2025 during ceremonies in Mombasa.
Travel agents, hotel operators and content creators will visit Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, Queen Elizabeth National Park, Murchison Falls and Jinja to experience attractions firsthand. The initiative follows October's coastal tourism gathering in Malindi and seeks to position destinations from Indian Ocean beaches to Uganda's interior as one connected travel route. Tourism generates 7.7 percent of Uganda's economic output and employs more than 1.2 million people. International visitor numbers climbed 12 percent during the first six months of 2025 to reach 765,000 arrivals, while revenue increased 24 percent to 2.68 trillion shillings.
East African Community members have promoted unified destination branding under their One Destination framework, though progress remains limited. Experts say combining Kenya's coastal appeal with Uganda's wildlife and adventure offerings could lengthen trips and increase visitor expenditure. Ugandan officials are expanding Entebbe International Airport and improving highways to major parks while emphasizing conservation and community participation.
