Kisoro MPs call out NRM on empty road promises

A heated political confrontation erupted in Kisoro District when local lawmakers challenged Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa during a church restoration ceremony over unmet government promises.

Eddie Kwizera Wagahungu, representing Bukimbiri County, sharply criticized the ruling National Resistance Movement for exaggerating its accomplishments and neglecting critical infrastructure commitments. The legislator specifically targeted the stalled Mutolere-Nyakabande road project, which remains unfinished despite repeated governmental assurances.

Wagahungu directly questioned President Yoweri Museveni's claims about road completion, drawing audible support from the gathered audience. He argued that if high-ranking officials like retired General Kale Kayihura could receive rapid presidential responses, similar attention should be given to local infrastructure concerns.

Bufumbira North MP John Nizeyimana Kamara escalated the criticism, challenging Tayebwa's call for leadership unity. Kamara argued that Kisoro's developmental stagnation stemmed from individual selfishness rather than regional divisions or political fragmentation.

Tayebwa defended the government's position, urging parliamentarians to recognize existing administrative efforts. He promised to personally elevate the road construction issue to Transportation Minister General Katumba Wamala, assuring imminent project commencement.

The confrontation highlighted ongoing tensions between local representatives and national leadership, revealing deep-seated frustrations about infrastructural development and governmental accountability in the region.
