Kiyani admits government failure, begs tax experts for a fix

Finance Minister Bilal Azhar Kiyani delivered remarks at an economic policy conference in Islamabad, advocating for increased participation from tax professionals in government reform initiatives. The Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Pakistan and Rawalpindi Islamabad Tax Bar Association organized the Finance Act 2025 seminar. More than 450 tax experts, accountants, and business representatives attended the gathering. Kiyani served as chief guest while addressing the assembled professionals. The minister emphasized collaborative approaches to sustaining Pakistan's recent economic improvements.

Government officials reported several positive economic indicators during the presentation. Stock market performance reached record levels while inflation and policy rates decreased substantially. Foreign remittances achieved historic highs as national debt management improved significantly. Tax revenue collection expanded while the IMF program proceeded successfully. Benazir Income Support Programme received enhanced funding allocation during this period.

Kiyani pledged continued consultation between government agencies and private sector organizations. ICMAP Chairman Muhammad Imran outlined his organization's contributions to national economic policy development. Technical presentations covered income tax modifications, sales tax updates, and digital invoicing procedures. Competition Commission member Bushra Naz Malik addressed regulatory framework perspectives. Muhammad Rizwan Arshad concluded proceedings by emphasizing ongoing partnership requirements among policymakers and business communities for sustainable development goals.
