Kluang trader's greed costs him RM830k in phantom PHV View app

A hardware company boss got fleeced for nearly 830,000 ringgit after crooks lured him into a fake investment scheme. The 56-year-old businessman stumbled across a social media advertisement back in March that promised massive returns on investments. Scammers posing as investment agents convinced the victim to download an application called PHV View for participation. Police chief ACP Bahrin Mohd Noh from Kluang revealed how the con artists operated their elaborate fraud. The victim fell hook, line and sinker for the digital deception that would cost him hundreds of thousands.

Fraudsters milked the businessman for RM829,705 between early June and mid-July through multiple bank transfers. The victim sent cash in stages to five separate accounts while watching fake profits climb to RM4.67 million on the bogus app. Criminals then demanded additional payments before the man could withdraw his supposed windfall earnings. The businessman finally smelled a rat when demands for more money kept coming. He marched straight to Kluang Police Station on July 10 to file his complaint against the digital thieves.

Authorities launched their investigation under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating offenses. The case highlights how sophisticated online scammers target successful business people through social media platforms. Police continue working the fraud case while warning other potential victims about similar schemes.
