Lagos ready for heavy rains reassures islanders

Lagos officials say they can handle the heavy rain coming soon. They want people on Lagos Island to stop worrying about floods. Environment Commissioner Wahab checked the city fixing project happening there. He said emergency flood teams will work all year long to prevent problems.

Weather experts warned that serious rain could hit Lagos soon. The government has already taken steps to prevent water from damaging homes. Wahab apologized for the mess caused by construction but promised it would fix flooding forever. The work targets trouble spots like Adeniji, Oroyinyin, Idumagbo, Jankara, and Aroloya. Governor Sanwo-Olu recently visited with other officials.

The project includes better drains, fixed roads, and careful city planning. They installed temporary pumps at the Adeniji Adele bridge to move stormwater away from risk areas. Different parts will be finished in nine months to two years from the start. During his visit, Wahab ordered the removal of illegal shacks blocking water flow near King Ado High School. He also closed a construction site dumping materials in drains.

The city continues fighting against foam containers. People breaking rules will face punishment. Wahab said everyone needs to manage waste properly for clean surroundings. He claimed Lagos has prepared for months with drain cleaning teams ready for flash floods everywhere.
