Lamptey's knee goes pop on first Fiorentina start

Fiorentina defender Tariq Lamptey faces an extended recovery period after medical tests revealed a complete anterior cruciate ligament rupture. The Ghana international sustained the severe knee injury during Sunday's Serie A match against Como at Artemio Franchi Stadium. Lamptey lasted only 22 minutes before departing his inaugural start since transferring to the Italian club this summer. Surgeons successfully completed reconstructive surgery following diagnostic arthroscopy that confirmed the isolated ligament damage. The 24-year-old fullback will begin rehabilitation after the medical team addressed the complex injury.

Ghana's World Cup qualification campaign suffers a major personnel loss with Lamptey sidelined until 2025. Coach Otto Addo must reorganize his defensive strategy before October meetings with Central African Republic and Comoros. The Black Stars recently defeated Mali after suffering an unexpected loss to Chad earlier this month. Ghana pursues qualification for their fifth World Cup tournament scheduled across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Defensive adjustments become necessary as the national team approaches these decisive qualification matches in Accra.
