Lartey moves on domestic violence after 18 year delay

Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey established two new oversight bodies at her ministry headquarters this week. The National Council on Persons with Disability board received formal recognition under the 2006 Persons with Disability Act. The Domestic Violence Management Board gained official status through the 2007 Domestic Violence Act. Both organizations will strengthen Ghana's social protection systems through targeted policy development. The minister emphasized each board's distinct responsibilities during the swearing-in ceremony.

The disability council will advance rights and welfare initiatives for people with disabilities across all development sectors. The domestic violence board will guide policy decisions while coordinating prevention and victim support services. Lartey directed the disability board to eliminate participation barriers and promote equal opportunities. She instructed the domestic violence board to expand public awareness campaigns and prioritize survivor needs. The minister challenged all members to demonstrate integrity and commitment toward building an inclusive society.
