Majority Chief Whip and South Dayi Member of Parliament Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, along with lawyer Israel Tetteh and the Ghana Law Society, has taken legal action against the Attorney-General and the Ghana Bar Association at the Supreme Court. The suit, filed on September 23, 2025, calls on the court to address the issue of the Ghana Bar Association’s exclusive recognition as the only representative group for lawyers. The plaintiffs argue that since the GBA is a private association, giving it special status under the law goes against constitutional rights to equality and freedom of association. They want the court to interpret all mentions of the Ghana Bar Association in the Constitution and Legal Profession Act as referring to any legal group, not just the current GBA. The plaintiffs also seek an order to stop the GBA from presenting itself as the only official legal body in Ghana.
