Lecturers eye mass exit for GTEC chiefs over power trips

University staff are telling the heads of a national education commission to pack their bags immediately. The University of Ghana chapter of the University Teachers Association of Ghana demanded the resignation of GTEC Director General Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai and Deputy Augustine Ocloo. They accuse the commission’s leadership of hostile engagement and arbitrary directives harming institutions.

UTAG cited repeated administrative overreach, including unlawful orders about lecturer retirements. The association also mentioned a commission directive regarding false reports of a fee increase at the university. They described these actions as undermining institutional autonomy and creating an unfriendly environment.

The group issued a clear deadline for the officials to step down honorably. Failure will result in a petition for their removal and potential industrial action. UTAG urged other branches and tertiary institutions across Ghana to join this call for accountability. The goal is to protect academic freedom and restore proper management in public universities.
