Lee reminds Mahathir of old fights in 100th birthday message

Singapore leader Lee Hsien Loong sent birthday greetings to Malaysia's oldest former prime minister who turned 100 years old. The senior minister praised Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as a game-changing leader who built Malaysia into a modern powerhouse during his long political career. Lee also wished Tun Dr Siti Hasmah well ahead of her 99th birthday coming up later. The Singapore politician called Mahathir a major figure who helped transform his country into a successful global player. Lee highlighted how the veteran leader spent decades working to make Malaysia stronger and more connected to the world.

The Singapore leader gave Mahathir credit for pushing Southeast Asian countries to stick together through thick and thin. Lee said the former Malaysian prime minister understood that regional nations needed to work as a team to protect their freedom and independence. Mahathir championed Asean unity and helped build stronger bonds between neighboring countries throughout his time in office. The veteran politician recognized that small nations could achieve more by joining forces rather than going it alone. Lee praised these efforts to bring Southeast Asian leaders closer together during challenging times.

Lee admitted that Singapore and Malaysia have bumped heads on various issues over the years but always found ways to patch things up. The two countries managed to work through their differences and discover areas where they could cooperate despite occasional disagreements. Lee promised that future leaders from both nations would continue building on the strong partnership between Singapore and Malaysia. The senior minister ended his message with warm birthday wishes written in the Malay language for both Mahathir and his wife.
