Lisandra Mbojana's madora pizza a hit in Bindura

Students at SOS Hermann Gmeiner High School in Bindura have transformed wheat production into entrepreneurial ventures through the Technologies for African Agricultural Transformation program. Sixteen-year-old Lisandra Mbofana from rural Madziva creates innovative products like madora pizza and moringa cookies from locally grown wheat. The Crop Breeding Institute developed the Save wheat variety, which resists drought and disease while producing up to seven tonnes per hectare. This variety thrives in Zimbabwe's semi-arid climate and supports the country's annual wheat requirement of 360,000 tonnes.

The school's integrated approach combines agriculture with business education, teaching students that processed wheat products generate ten times more revenue than raw grain. Raw wheat earns approximately five US dollars per bucket, while value-added products can fetch over fifty dollars. Ethiopia's successful transformation from wheat importer to Africa's leading exporter demonstrates the potential for similar agricultural innovation across the continent through youth-focused training programs.
