Local Seed Makers Gear Up for a Bumper Harvest

Zimbabwean seed companies have started making climate-friendly seeds after the government pushed for this change. One local business has already begun creating better corn types plus storing seeds from old-fashioned grain varieties. Everyone across the seed industry has jumped into action. These companies want to help Zimbabwe become more industrial and reach higher income levels by 2030.

At a Harare seed factory yesterday, employees packed wheat seeds that farmers will receive through a special government program. The plant manager, Tonderai Masuku, explained they work full-time despite rumors saying otherwise. His team packages 60 tons daily and promises farmers will get their wheat seeds exactly when needed. The company believes it must fulfill its duty to the country through this work.

Traditional grains have proven they can feed people even during changing weather patterns. The company has stepped up its work to create weather-resistant seed collections for the future. Field manager Talent Ndige mentioned they follow government policies about drought-resistant seeds. They focus on traditional grains because these plants handle climate shifts better than others. They keep building their seed supply to help make sure Zimbabwe has enough food.

Zimbabwe expects plenty of crops this year thanks to heavy rainfall during the growing season. Local seed businesses keep working hard day and night to support the country's progress. Their efforts show how private companies partner with government plans for national development goals.
