Mahama takes a stand against rogue building projects

President Mahama came out swinging against people who build houses where they shouldn't. He talked tough at Black Star Square during this year's Eid-ul-Fitr event, making it clear he plans to knock down any buildings put up illegally on wetlands or waterways. The rainy season approaches fast, bringing early floods because construction has blocked rivers from flowing naturally. These waters have nowhere to go except backward, causing widespread damage.

The President pointed fingers not just at random builders but also called out certain chiefs who help sell protected Ramsar sites to developers. He made his position crystal clear - this practice must end immediately. Mahama promised decisive action against these unauthorized buildings that block water paths, emphasizing nobody can place their selfish interests above public safety. He declared the government would enforce laws strictly against anyone who continues these dangerous building practices.

Mahama stressed how these illegal structures create massive flooding problems that destroy property across affected areas. He explained how environmental protection laws exist for good reasons, yet many people completely disregard them. Their actions put countless lives and homes at serious risk whenever heavy rains come. The President firmly stated his administration would hold violators accountable for their actions through proper legal channels.

The announcement came as part of his broader message during the national celebration, highlighting environmental concerns as a major priority. Mahama expressed frustration at how a relatively small number of individuals could cause such widespread problems through their irresponsible building choices. His administration plans to take strong enforcement steps to protect waterways and wetlands from further encroachment, ensuring natural drainage systems remain functional during rainy seasons.
