Russia and Qatar set up new $2B investment platform

Russia teamed up with Qatar to create a new $2 billion investment platform. The Russian Direct Investment Fund joined forces with the Qatar Investment Authority to form this partnership. Russian President Vladimir Putin watched as officials signed the agreement alongside Qatari Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. Both countries will put equal money into the deal, each contributing $1 billion. The platform will focus on technology, healthcare, and mineral extraction projects.

RDIF head Kirill Dmitriev said this partnership opens new doors for Russian companies looking to enter Middle East markets. Qatari businesses will also receive help breaking into the Russian market. This marks the second major collaboration between these investment groups. They previously launched a $4 billion platform in 2014. That earlier partnership funded various Russian projects, including banking services, artificial intelligence, mining, and logistics.
