DRC and Qatar sign deals to boost ports, justice, and youth ties

Congolese President Félix Tshisekedi and Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani formalized six bilateral agreements during a Kinshasa summit addressing infrastructure modernization, legal frameworks and humanitarian assistance. The arrangements link Qatar Ports Management Company with Congolese transport operator ONATRA to upgrade maritime facilities while establishing diplomatic passport exemptions, youth program coordination and foreign ministry consultation channels between the nations.

Tshisekedi acknowledged Doha's mediation efforts regarding tensions with the AFC/M23 coalition in eastern provinces, where instability disrupts mineral extraction and commercial routes. The Qatar Fund for Development committed resources to emergency multisectoral initiatives in conflict-affected South Kivu as Gulf nations intensify economic engagement across African markets.
