Mahathir collapses from fatigue, rushed to IJN heart center

Malaysia's centenarian political giant landed at the National Heart Institute after exhaustion knocked him sideways during birthday festivities. The 100-year-old former leader felt wiped out and needed medical attention while doctors kept watch over his condition. His personal assistant Sufi Yusoff told reporters that fatigue had caught up with the veteran politician. Medical staff planned to send him back to his residence before nightfall. The brief hospital stay sparked concerns among supporters who worried about his wellbeing.

Earlier that morning, the political legend had pedaled his bicycle across eight kilometers during a special celebration at Putrajaya. Family and friends gathered to mark his century milestone on July 10 and his wife Tun Dr Siti Hasmah's 99th birthday two days later. The spirited politician joined the cycling group before settling down for a communal breakfast with fellow participants. Mild tiredness crept up on him around 10 o'clock, forcing an early departure from the festive gathering. His energy levels had dipped after pushing through the physical activities.

His son Tan Sri Mokhzani quickly dismissed any serious medical worries about his father's sudden hospital visit. The family blamed poor sleep and a demanding social event from the previous evening for wearing down the elder statesman. Dr Mahathir previously led Malaysia as both the fourth and seventh prime minister across two separate terms. His political career spanned decades from 1981 through 2003 and again from 2018 until 2020. The remarkable leader continues defying age expectations despite reaching his hundredth year.
