Malala Gets the Boot as Court Backs UDA

A High Court judge backed President Ruto's party's decision to remove Cleaphas Malala from his leadership role. Justice Bahati Mwamuye canceled previous orders that had stopped Hassan Omar from taking over as UDA secretary general. The court threw out a ruling made last year by the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal. Mwamuye declared all proceedings from that tribunal invalid. He said Malala cannot continue his appeal there.

UDA kicked Malala out of his position last August after weeks of party fighting. The party's national council met under chairperson Cecile Mbarire before making this choice. They published their decision about replacing Malala with Omar in an official government notice. The court affirmed that this notice remains valid. Mwamuye ruled that these changes will stay in place.
