Malawi Anglican bishops preach unity and prayer as election fever grips Lilongwe

Anglican church leaders issued a pastoral letter two days before Malawian voters cast their ballots. Bishops William Mchombo, Fanuel Magangani, Alinafe Kalemba, and Daniel Kalonga warned citizens against allowing political preferences to tear apart families and communities. The religious leaders emphasized that elections shape the future for all Malawians. They reminded people that shared identity and destiny will remain after voting ends. The bishops stressed that neighbors and relatives should stay united regardless of electoral outcomes.

Church officials urged voters to reject tribal, regional, and financial pressures when selecting candidates. They encouraged citizens to choose leaders based on character, ability, and dedication to public service. The bishops requested fervent prayers for peace throughout the electoral process. They asked for divine wisdom for leaders, election officials, security forces, and all participants. Faith leaders across Malawi have joined efforts to promote restraint and responsibility during this tense political period, marked by voter mistrust and concerns about potential post-election conflicts.
