Malawi exam signups dip slightly as Form 4, Std 8 numbers fall

Student headcount dipped slightly while the exam authority finalized the latest registration figures. The Malawi National Examinations Board recorded 201,384 candidates for Form 4 papers, marking a decline from the 202,940 learners who enrolled previously. Standard 8 entries also fell, with 255,070 pupils registering this session compared to the 257,129 recorded during the last cycle.

Junior secondary levels actually saw growth despite the drops elsewhere. Executive Director Dorothy Nampota noted that Form 2 registrations climbed to 166,652 students, edging past the 166,123 count from the prior year. This shift indicates that the education sector remains mostly steady, regardless of the tiny percentage slide overall.

Testing kicks off in early June for the junior classes. Primary schoolers sit for their assessments shortly after, while the senior group begins writing near the end of that month and finishes in late July. Administrators released this schedule to ensure everyone prepares before the invigilators start handing out papers.
