A young man died Friday morning at Falling Rocks in Ullswater after he went open water swimming. Friends called for help when the swimmer never came back up. Search teams looked for him across the lake for more than three hours. Police divers found his body around 2:25 PM.
Different rescue groups joined the search after friends raised the alarm. Mountain rescue teams, coastguard workers, firefighters, and air ambulance staff all helped look for the missing man. Police said they started checking what happened before the man died. They believe nothing criminal caused his death.
The Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team arrived at 9:40 AM to help find the swimmer. They searched using a hard-shell inflatable boat across parts of the lake. After several hours, nobody found anything, so they cut back the number of searchers. The rescue boat stayed put and used sound waves to scan deep water.
Their sonar equipment found possible targets under the water for the police dive team to check. Police divers showed up around 1:00 PM and found the body about ninety minutes later. The mountain rescue team shared their sympathy for everyone who knew the man who passed away. They said their thoughts stayed with his friends and family during this sad time.
