Zimbabwe's government is shutting down unregistered schools and colleges across Manicaland after kids bombed their Grade Seven exams. Provincial Education Director Richard Gabaza said any illegal institution needs to get registered by year-end, or they're getting closed down with police backup. Girls crushed the boys in test scores, with female students grabbing way more six-unit passes at most schools.
The crackdown comes after the province tanked hard on test results compared to previous years. Mutare Junior Primary pulled the best numbers with 73 students hitting six units, but other schools like Baring Primary only managed nine top performers. Rural schools keep getting wrecked by their urban counterparts because of garbage funding and kids having to walk forever just to get to class.
National pass rates dropped slightly to 48.49 percent, and female students dominated with a 53.64 percent pass rate, while boys only hit 43.06 percent. Rural education advocates are begging for better internet access, more textbooks, and actual science labs to close the gap.
