Maphisa growth point sees major infrastructure push for 2026 celebrations

The government is accelerating infrastructure development in Matabeleland South Province ahead of the 2026 Independence Day celebrations in Maphisa. Officials described this concentrated effort as a demonstration of its policy to ensure all regions benefit from national development. Multiple projects are already in progress, including the construction and upgrading of key roads such as the Gwanda-Maphisa route and the Bulawayo-Kezi Road. Site preparation for the main celebration venue has also commenced.

Additional legacy projects involve building new vocational training centers and drilling boreholes. A planned upgrade of the late Vice President Joshua Nkomo’s homestead is noted as a significant symbolic gesture. This comprehensive initiative is intended to stimulate the local economy and improve market access for area producers. The government positions this infrastructural push as a tangible fulfillment of its national development goals.
