Mardi plans to introduce three new durian varieties within two years

Malaysian scientists will release three fresh durian cultivars over the coming two years through the Agricultural Research and Development Institute. Researchers evaluate multiple hybrid specimens to identify viable clones for commercial production. Teams assess adaptation potential across various geographic regions while conducting development work at facilities in Kuala Kangsar and Terengganu's Jerangau location. Official designation codes and marketing names remain under review pending formal announcement ceremonies.

The institute plans to rename the hybrid MRDI Super 88 cultivar with enhanced commercial appeal. Agricultural specialists have established 13,000 MS88 specimens throughout Malaysia under direct institutional oversight. Current plantings range between two and three years of maturity. Commercial distribution will commence within five to six years as trees reach productive capacity. Director-General Mohamad Zabawi Abdul Ghani announced these developments during media engagement activities at the Kuala Kangsar research center.
