Matatu Mayhem - Police Crackdown on Wild Driving

Two public buses in Rongai were seen being driven very badly on Magadi Road, on the route from Lang'ata to Ongata Rongai. A video showed the buses driving close together and honking a lot. They were going fast near Maasai Lodge.

Some bus workers were hanging on the outside of the moving buses. Three of them even sat on the roof of one bus. The bus was speeding down the wrong side of the road, close to Multimedia University.

A police officer was there directing traffic. But he did not seem to care about the dangerous actions.

Someone posted the video online and tagged the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA). NTSA later said the police had taken the two buses and thanked the person for telling them about the problem.

There have been other cases of reckless driving recently. One happened on December 22 on the Makuyu-Sagana Road in Kambiti. Two buses were driving side-by-side very fast, passing other vehicles in a dangerous way.

Police found the drivers of those buses and took them to court on December 27. The court fined one driver a lot and took away his driver's license for a year. The bus owner and another worker also had to pay fines.

NTSA is still looking for the other bus driver who got away. They plan to update you when they find him.
