Matete drew a 30-month, lifetime driving ban in Harare

A lifetime driving ban landed on a guy who never legally held a license to begin with, and that alone tells you how this one went. Munashe Costa Matete, 23, out of Glen View in Harare, got convicted by the Harare Magistrates' Court of culpable homicide and for rolling around unlicensed.

His Volvo drifted into the wrong lane on Bishop Gaul Road, and a Nissan Dayz caught it dead-on. Both men behind the wheel got wrecked, while a woman riding in the Nissan took the worst of it. Medics rushed her to Avenues Clinic, but she didn't pull through.

The bench listed exactly where he blew it. Speed that didn't suit the moment, eyes not where they belonged, no attempt at avoiding the smash once it was obvious, and zero grip on his vehicle.

Sentencing math went like this. Thirty-six months on the homicide count, twelve shaved off as suspended, leaving 24 to serve. Six more got stacked on for the paperwork side of things, which puts him at 30 months inside and off Zimbabwe's roads permanently.
