Mayor Ousted from Crayfish Fest in Money Fight

Festival boss Alex Gawanab told Lüderitz mayor Phil Balhao he could not participate in any crayfish festival activities this year. The town council locked horns with the festival board about money matters from past events. Money transfers stopped until leaders cleared up financial records that caused arguments.

Balhao shared on Facebook that the town council must check old festival accounts before sending cash to event organizers. The council asked lawyers what to do about these money questions. Their legal team agreed the council should fix these old problems once and for all. Three council members might face court action because of this money fight.

When asked about these claims, board chairman Gawanab said he needs to talk with other board members before making any statements. The yearly crayfish celebration attracts many visitors to this coastal Namibian town and helps the local economy, but management disputes threaten its smooth running.
