Mbare Musika Market Reopens for Traders

Mbare Market Reopens with Modern Upgrades After Fire Disaster.

A new modern market in Mbare stands ready to welcome 2,000 traders in its first phase, offering fresh hope to vendors who lost their stalls in last year's fire.

The facility marks a revival for one of Harare's main trading centers. Officials have completed a thorough check of trader credentials before the upcoming move-in date.

"We received claims from 5,134 traders affected by the fire," said Farari Hokonya, acting chief director of the Civil Protection Department. "Our team has verified 4,253 traders."

The initial phase includes space for 2,500 vendors. In the second phase, the remaining traders will be housed in an additional building under construction.

The rebuilt market features enhanced safety measures against fires, expanded vendor areas, and better sanitation facilities.

Martin Matinyanya, Mbare's representative in Parliament, praised the development. "This government initiative addresses our local challenges head-on," he said.

The project started after authorities declared the fire a national disaster. Fire victims will receive first preference for trading spots in the new facility.

Officials aim to restore the market's role as a vital economic hub, supporting thousands of families who depend on trade for their income.
