Mnangagwa aids traders after Mbare market fire

President Mnangagwa showed support for traders hit by the Mbare Market fire. He gave them lease papers and rental cards already loaded with one month of fees. This helps young people, disabled persons, veterans, and sellers restart their work without money worries. The program comes as part of opening the first phase of rebuilding at the famous marketplace.

The president said his government wants to help small businesses grow through fewer rules and easier processes. The market burned down on October 8 last year, causing heavy losses for many sellers. Days later, officials declared a disaster status, which allowed them to gather resources to fix everything. Phase one finishing means 1,628 traders can sell again in better spaces.

Traders complain about high rents set by the city council. The wholesale section costs $600, flea markets $300, vegetable areas $200, and farmers' spaces $150. Many find these prices hard to afford after losing stock in the fire. Mnangagwa promised financial help, skills training, and market access for small businesses.

He asked local leaders to modernize markets across Zimbabwe, with a special focus on women and youth. The president praised construction companies for their good work rebuilding. He also reminded everyone to keep the new facilities clean and organized. This project should bring new life to local businesses and strengthen the small business sector.
