Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching said on Sunday the Malaysian Media Council should develop stronger capabilities for mediating conflicts and establishing ethical frameworks that address contemporary challenges facing news operations.
Speaking at the Johor DAP State Annual Convention in Siang Hai Recreation Centre, Teo explained the council will offer parties disputing news coverage a venue to resolve complaints about fairness or accuracy through structured procedures. The upcoming session will transfer leadership selection from government appointment to membership elections, as per Section 8(4) of the Malaysian Media Council Act, thereby granting the body greater autonomy to strengthen the nation's information ecosystem.
