Miami gold kings busted, tax tricks glitter no more

The feds hit two guys from Guyana with charges over a scheme that allegedly cost their government around 50 million dollars through dodgy gold exports. Nazar Mohamed and his son Azruddin ran a gold business that shipped product through Miami and Dubai, but prosecutors say they gamed the system by reusing official tax seals on multiple shipments to dodge fees while bribing customs officials to look the other way. The operation moved at least 10,000 kilograms of gold while paying taxes on way less of what was actually left in the country.

Azruddin also faced separate charges for dodging over a million in taxes when he brought a Lamborghini into Guyana, and authorities grabbed about 5.3 million worth of gold bars at Miami airport. The younger Mohamed just lost a presidential race and is headed to parliament as leader of his political party, but both father and son got sanctioned by the Treasury Department before any of this went to court.
