Mnangagwa demands Africa seat on UN Security Council

Zimbabwe President Emmerson Mnangagwa demands United Nations Security Council restructuring during the organization's 80th anniversary commemoration. African nations deserve permanent membership representation within the Security Council framework, according to Mnangagwa's official statement. The current system perpetuates unjustifiable exclusion of an entire continent from global decision-making processes. Zimbabwe supports international calls for comprehensive reform of Security Council operations. Collective participation in worldwide policy decisions represents an urgent requirement for effective governance.

Mnangagwa emphasized ongoing neo-colonial challenges affecting African development and sovereignty. The United Nations must address climate change, pandemics, and geopolitical tensions through peaceful resolution mechanisms. Western Sahara remains under colonial control despite broader African decolonization efforts. Global cooperation becomes essential for achieving Sustainable Development Goals and maintaining international peace. Secretary General Antonio Guterres launched the UN80 Initiative to modernize operations and strengthen organizational relevance for contemporary challenges.
