Mnangagwa outmaneuvers Chiwenga with ED2030 Mutare resolution

President Emmerson Mnangagwa outmaneuvered Vice President Constantino Chiwenga at the ZANU-PF conference in Mutare by securing party approval to extend his presidency beyond 2028 to 2030. Analysts described the maneuver as a constitutional coup that prioritizes personal power over democratic principles. Chiwenga submitted a dossier to the politburo accusing presidential allies of corruption, but Mnangagwa's faction dismissed the document as treasonous.

Mnangagwa's control over party machinery and financial resources from business associates neutralized Chiwenga's military influence. The president appears to favor Defense Forces Commander Phillip Valerio Sibanda or businessman Kudakwashe Tagwirei as potential successors. Chiwenga's succession prospects collapsed after the conference resolution passed with minimal resistance from delegates.

The vice president must rebuild political support and gather resources to challenge Mnangagwa's dominance. The ED2030 resolution raises concerns about constitutional safeguards and governance standards in Zimbabwe. Mnangagwa demonstrated strategic skill at the conference, but succession battles within ZANU-PF remain unresolved.
