Modi auctions god idols and game gear to fund Ganga cleanup

Prime Minister Narendra Modi encouraged Indian citizens on Wednesday to participate in an online auction of mementos. The government will direct all auction revenues toward the Namami Gange river conservation initiative. Citizens can bid on more than 1,300 items through the official portal www.pmmementos.gov.in during the current sale period. The auction features paintings, sculptures, religious artifacts, and sports equipment representing Indian culture and artistic talent. Union Culture and Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat confirmed the extensive collection available for bidding.

The sale period began on September 17, on Modi's 75th birthday, and continues through October 2 during the national Seva Pakhwada public service observance. Paralympic athletes from the 2024 Paris Games contributed sports memorabilia that highlights Indian athletic achievement and determination. Previous memento auctions have generated over ₹50 crore for the Ganga River restoration project since the program was launched in January 2019. The government portal allows registered participants to bid on displayed items through the transparent online system.
