Modi's India chops hotel GST, bus fares dive, artisans grin

India's government launched revised taxation policies this week that reduce costs across tourism and cultural sectors. Hotels charging less than 7,500 rupees per night benefit from lowered rates falling from twelve percent to five percent. Bus operators purchasing vehicles with more than ten seats receive reduced tax burdens dropping from twenty-eight percent to eighteen percent. Artists and craftsmen gain relief through decreased levies on cultural merchandise falling from twelve percent to five percent.

Tourism officials expect these changes will attract more domestic and international visitors while supporting traditional artisans. Lower accommodation costs should benefit middle-class travelers and boost heritage tourism activities. Reduced bus taxation may encourage public transport adoption while decreasing private vehicle usage. The cultural goods provision supports sculptors, painters, and craftspeople working with traditional materials. Government representatives believe these reforms will generate employment opportunities and strengthen India's position as a competitive travel destination while preserving artistic traditions.
