Mombasa Team Finds Body After Tank Collapse

Workers retrieved the body of Abdiaziz Abdallah from a 120-foot septic tank early yesterday morning. The 54-year-old man became trapped when the floor collapsed on Sunday at Bamburi Mwisho in Mombasa County. Rescue teams found him 60 feet below ground level after extensive digging operations. They searched another 20 feet deeper but found no additional victims. County officials handed his body to police after family members confirmed his identity.

The disaster team had to demolish a bar that had operated for over thirty years to reach the septic tank. Chief Fire Officer Ibrahim Basafar said a lack of proper access created major problems during recovery efforts. He urged residents to follow land use laws requiring space between buildings for emergency access. Officials expressed frustration about structures built without permits or safety considerations. Governor Abdulswamad Nassir called the video café an unauthorized structure operating without valid permits.

This incident happened just two weeks after authorities demolished another dangerously tilting building in Mombasa. The county disaster team finished their work at the site yesterday. Officials transferred responsibility to the infrastructure department to seal the tank and restore the area. Authorities asked community members to cooperate with county inspections and planning rules going forward.
